The latest Doom map I have made is now completed. It is a rendition of the UAC E1M1 Hangar map and I think it is quite good. It uses the Doom64 textures and looks very much like a UAC Base, it is fairly bright outside as well, and this is important when you are playing a map and are fighting Spectres. Get it here: UAC Hangar. This map is a finished map, but I am taking requests for any features and changes to it as long as they work with the Boom engine ports. You need the ConsoleDoom.wad from Kaiser to run it, chek out his site to get the zipfile.

I have been using Windows XP and I have been very surprised by the effect that installing the Service Pack 2 has on the overall performance of the system. Ie, totally fucking up the whole machine. In my previous post about my experience with a Windows XP `Professional` system that had service pack 2 installed and totally fucked it up.

Thank god for portable Firefox, this is a very good development from the Mozilla Developers, I can have Mozilla Firefox on my 128MB USB key drive and keep all of my preferences and bookmarks on my disk and every time I use it it only has my files on it, and it can import bookmarks from the host machine as well. But this is much more useful than a virus ridden XP system, as you can make the drive read-only and browse websites without worrying about getting viruses on your USB key drive.

Or you could use Knoppix loaded completely into RAM and take out the HDD and then you could browse the Internet without worrying about any spyware and malware at all.

But we have to use Windows sometimes dont we? But that does not mean we enjoy it at all.

I have just seen the post on the Doomworld forums about the Doom Movie and I think this will not be in the spirit of the original material. The Final Fantasy movie was absolute trash reminding me of the Aliens movie with the standard mismatched bunch of soldiers fighting some evil force. The forces of Hell are about as evil as you get depending which Hell they come from, so the Rock, the peoples champion will have his work cut out for him. If they made the movie following the Doom Bible, then it might be worth watching, but it will just be another Hollywood action movie with lots of gunplay and mindless action. But it might be funny to see one of the Rocks men running out of a corridor waving a oversized red Key card in the air shouting "One key three to go!" ;). And one guy gets the Berserk pack and proceeds to splatter a heap of guys and wades through the heaps of gore and splattered viscera. Maybe an X rating for this one... At least Arnie is not in it, It would be as bad as True Lies and Eraser combined. And the Doomguy is a lone fighter, he does not have a whole squad with him, but maybe the group shot shows the team before they went inside and got slaughtered. The hero stays behind in the shuttle craft and is the only survivor and has to complete the mission on his own.

I hope this is not set on Phobos as phobos has only a fraction the gravity of Mars and cannot hold any atmosphere at all. Any person on it's surface would be able to jump maybe 60 Meters into the air and make crossing a group of monsters very easy, you could run over the top of them and fire the Bio-Ray gun from above, just imagine the carnage. I will be watching the news media to see if there is any more news about the plot of the movie. I wonder if the base will be called Tei Tenga, and will they have the incredible sinking mainframe from Doom2 MAP01? If they only have posessed humans in the movie as opponents then our protaganists would have almost no problem with their firepower. There has to be some more powerful force for them to fight to make a more entertaining movie. If there were Hell Barons and Demons in the movie then it would be very cool.

I personally would base the Doom movie on the horribly violent Doom Comic, then you would have the story of Knee Deep in the Dead and then it would be very apocalyptic indeed. Then the sequel could be Doom ][ Hell on Earth and you cold show the giant ships coming into the Earth's atmosphere and spilling hordes of Demons onto the surface of our little blue planet. And, will they have the Invulnerability spheres and Supercharge items in the movie, or will they make it more realistic?

Over to the WWE and it looks like Batista is staying with RAW to take the title from Triple H. Then he will be the World Heavyweight champion and dominate RAW for some time. Then there is the battle of words between Shawm Micheals and Kurt Angle, this will be developing into quite a battle for sure, I cannot wait until they get together at a PPV event and sort it out once and for all. It would be quite a battle between these two men and even more fun than Carlito Carribean Cool and John Cena. But I thought Triple H using the sledge hammer on Rosey was pretty brutal, but Triple H has a lot of issues he needs to work out and I guess he wants to take it out on everyone he meets.

Doom Movie. IMDB Doom Movie information. Some more information about the Doom movie. I seriously hope this is better than it is depicted in the Slashdot article I read. I mean some shit about Angelic transformations and the people infected with some virus that amplifies any latent evil inside them, And the good guy gets infected with the virus and becomes a super angelic being and supposedly lays the smackdown on the evil beings swarming the base. Sounds roughly like the Demonic force infecting the Event Horizon in the movie of the same name. In Doom3 there were so many PDA entries and information in the game that the story is really fleshed out to the max. If you wanted to make a good movie of Doom3, you have plenty of information to create a good script. If it followed the progression of the game then you would have something a little better.

Not the vomit inducing script they have so far, I could write something better. Maybe the Doom community should setup a Wiki Doom script and write a collaborative script for Doom using the collective brain power of the Doom Community put together. Grazza could moderate it and then we could have the perfect script for the perfect movie. It would take 500 to ten thousand years to Terraform Mars according to Wired^TM magazine's December 2004 edition. Maybe in the movie they find a way to attach their flashlights to their guns, the Plasma gun certainly is large enough to duct tape a light to it, I know there is a mod for Doom3 that allows you to attach a flashlight to your gun, so it should be possible in the movie. There are a mind boggling array of devices that allow you to attach a light to your pistol and/or shotgun in real life, they have been around for years, so the fact that Doom3 is really dark is dissapointing considering that Mars is really bright in the daytime. The pictures from the Martian landers proved that. So why is the game so dark? Doom episode 3 was pretty bright and cheerful considering it was in Hell. But why not build the base on Mars with skylights to let in more ambient light. They could also have huge solar panels to collect solar energy and power some flourescent lighting for god sake.

Surely they can make a game that is not totally dark, HR2 MAP29 is an awesome map and it does not have pitch black areas, it is only the inside areas that are darker than outside but the lighting is more realistic. If the Mars base was more brightly lit, it would be much safer. Games do not make a good transition to Movies, the Mario Bro's and Streetfighter films proved that. Hollywood should stay away from making movies about any games, and just make the formulaic crap they always make like Kindergarten Cop and The Matrix (Boring). I prefer Asian cinema like Shiri and Bruce Lee movies. And anything with Jackie Chan or Chow Yun Fat. The One with Jet Li was also very entertaining, esp when he goes to the Hades planet in the end and fights off about 1000 men after some poontang ;) Now that would be funny, he would not be able to sit down for a year! I wonder how many investors have been suckered into paying for this Doom Movie, I wold not be surprised at all.

I went down the street just before, and there were some people having a fight and load shouting match outside the pub as usual. Why can't they find something better to do at 00:12 on a Friday morning? I was hacking code to finish my Guestbook CGI script and I have included a hash of bad words that will kick out someone if they try to enter spam and/or bad and offensive posts. I will tar up this script when I am finished and put it on my site for download. I have included quite a comprohensive list of offensive and spam related words, so I cannot put it on my page as a code listing. But it will be available for download for those who are interested. CGI.pm required, although everyone has this by now. It will work on Tripod and other sites as long as they provide a useful cgi-bin directory to put your scripts.

I have just made another map for Doom2 using the Console Doom textures. This map is a rendition of the UAC Hangar map ie, E1M1. It is fairly hard, but it will be top quality. More news soon.
